What Do Clown Fish Eat

What do clownfish eat is a recurring question.

Clownfish are omnivore and not picky at all. They eat almost everything and are not fussy about their diet.

This means it is not difficult to feed them.

They like to eat many commonly available commercial frozen foods:

 1.  brine shrimp
 2.  chopped marine flesh
 3.  squids
 4.  cope pods
 5.  prawns
 6.  mysid shrimps
 7 . blood worms
 8. mussels
 9.  white fish
10. Spirulina

Clown fish seems quite fond of live brine shrimp, but it it is better do not feed it to them to often as it makes them hyper.

A Very Good Aquarium Guide...

Live brine shrimp can be basically used as a treat.
Of course, you need to cut it in small bit size pieces for them.

They will also eat dry foods like:

High quality marine flakes
Freeze-dried or granulated foods.

Then, most clown fish also eat algae, which accounts for about  25 % of its diet in captivity.

The “perfect diet” is a good balance between meaty food and some greens.

I have recently heard that somebody is feeding feed dry seaweed only.
I think that's wrong, as they are not vegetarian.

When feeding with frozen food just remember that you do not overfeed.
It is quite easy to make such mistake and overfeed with frozen blocks: a half block twice a week would be perfect for clownfish, and then flakes in between.

It is much better to feed them a few  times a day (small quantities), instead of concentrating their feeding once a day.

“Saturation Feeding Technique”

       1. Grind, cut, or size the food into small bite sized pieces that your clownfish
           can eat in one bite.

      2. You will know it is small enough when the fish eats it instead of biting,
spiting, biting and spiting.
 3.  Drop or hand a couple of small pieces to your clowns.

4.  Give them time to find and eat the food before offering more.

5.  Keep on dropping one or a couple of pieces of food near the clownfish
till the  fish either turns their nose up at it or just continually spit it out
like they  would with larger pieces.

At this point the fish have been fed to “saturation”.
